Se usa para preguntar
sobre las características o información específica de personas o cosas.
What did you say? ¿Qué dijiste?
What is your name? ¿Cuál es tu nombre?
What are you reading? ¿Qué estás leyendo?
What colour is your house? ¿De qué color es tu casa?
What does Susan look like? ¿Cómo es Susan?
(aspecto)
What kind of music do you like?
¿Qué tipo de música te gusta?
Cuando existe una
preposición generalmente ésta va situada al final de la pregunta.
What are you looking at? ¿Qué estás mirando?
What is this book about? ¿De qué es este libro?
What como objeto de la oración no utiliza el auxiliar do.
What happened last night? ¿Qué pasó anoche?
What caused the boy’s death?
¿Qué causó la muerte del niño?
WHEN
Se usa para preguntar
en qué momento ocurre algo.
When were you born? ¿Cuándo naciste?
When did John arrive? ¿Cuándo llegó John?
When did you get married? ¿Cuándo te casaste?
When was this church built? ¿Cuándo fue construida esta iglesia?
When will you buy a motorbike?

Se usa para preguntar
por algo o alguien dentro de un número limitado de alternativas o dentro de un
grupo conocido.

Which colour do you prefer, red or blue? ¿Cuál
color prefieres, rojo o azul?
Cuando which se refiere al objeto de la
oración, ésta se forma con el auxiliar do.
Cuando which se refiere al sujeto de
la oración no se usa el auxiliar do.
Which bus goes to the airport?
¿Cuál bus va al aeropuerto?
Which company makes the best digital cameras? ¿Cuál
compañía hace las mejores cámaras digitales?
WHY
Se usa para preguntar
por la razón de algo.
Why is she crying? ¿Por qué está
llorando?
Why can’t you sleep? ¿Por qué
no puedes dormir?
Why didn’t you tell me that?
¿Por qué no me dijiste eso?
Why did she go home early? ¿Por qué se fue a casa temprano?

WHO
Se usa para preguntar
por la identidad de una persona. Se construye según las reglas de la
interrogación cuando who actúa como
objeto de la oración.
Who did you meet yesterday? ¿A quién conociste
ayer?
Who did you see at the party?
¿A quién viste en la fiesta?
Se construye con el
orden normal sujeto-verbo, cuando who
actúa como sujeto.
Who wrote this letter? ¿Quién
escribió esta carta?
Who broke the window? ¿Quién rompió la ventana?
Cuando se emplea una
preposición, ésta suele ir al final de la pregunta.
Who was my wife with? ¿Con quién estaba mi esposa?
Who does this book belong to?
¿A quién pertenece este libro?

Se usa para preguntar
por la manera en que algo ocurre, se desarrolla, es hecha o se realiza.

sabes mi secreto?
Pregunta por en qué
forma, estado o condición se encuentra algo, o cómo fue determinada
experiencia.

Permite preguntar
hasta qué punto se expresa una cualidad.
